Have you ever dreamed of being on television? Have you ever wanted to be in a motion picture? How about rubbing elbows with one of your all time favorite stars? You can be on set with the biggest stars in film and television by being and extra. Most well known actors began their careers as extras and gained valuable experience; experience that helped them land the speaking roles every performer fights so hard to get.

There are several ways one can become an extra. One of the most common ways is by going on movie auditions. Many times while attending movie auditions, the producer, casting director or director, will ask you if you are willing to do extra work. This can be a great way for you to get your foot in the door. It guarantees you a part in a movie! And the chance of securing a "featured" extra role (appearing in a scene with the main actors), is very good. Directors at movie auditions need extras to make a picture work. Movies will always need extras attached to them in order to be successful; there are no exceptions to this rule.

For any actor, walking onto a film or television set - and being part of an exciting project - is what they dream about. Actors leave their hometowns; take jobs they're overqualified for; and give up everything, just to have the chance to be in a film.

There are many benefits for actors who choose to be extras: networking; observing how the crew interacts with the cast; learning time management; and becoming familiar with different directing styles. These are just a few of the many advantages any actor can get through extra work. Get in the game and start building your career - become an extra.
